Intel Targets High-End Gaming Laptops
Intel has begun selling a faster processor designed to attract computer gamers to laptops. The new processor is the ”Core 2 Extreme” mobile processor. It is claimed to be 28 percent faster than the previous top-of-the-line model. It’s the first model to carry the Extreme brand, previously reserved for Intel’s fastest desktop chips. Analysts say Intel is hoping to stimulate laptop sales, which are currently outstripping the desktop market and expected to grow rapidly. Laptop shipments may jump 27 percent this year, compared with a 2.4 percent gain for desktops, according to Gartner.
